Painting, and particularly abstract painting, has fueled my interest in how I make images as an artist. For years I have struggled with painting as a "current" practice in the context of the academic and contemporary art worlds. Recently, I've connected aesthetically and intellectually with how digital tools inform my interpretation and interaction with the world. The contrast between our technologically driven lives has shaped the way that I explore and question painting as a practice and contemporary voice. Time, space, and memories become salient in the narrative created by this collective contrast and has pointed to a new direction in my work.
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Purdue University in Fine Art and Master of Fine Arts degree in studio art from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as a Holderness Fellow with a focus on drawing, painting, printmaking, art criticism, and theory. Currently, I live and work in Houston, Texas and in Elizabethton, Tennessee where I share a studio with my partner and artist Tyler Bingham.
